HALF MARATHON ROAD RACE

North Lanarkshire's Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 24 August, starting and ending at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, and is a new addition to our events schedule for 2025.

We are committed to ensuring the half marathon event is delivered safely and efficiently for everyone involved, as well as for those in the surrounding areas. While we recognise that the event will cause disruption, it will also unite runners and communities from across North Lanarkshire and beyond, establishing a major event for the region.

Traffic management plans will be in operation prior to and for the duration of the event. Preparations will begin from approximately 4am on Sunday 24 August, and will continue to be in operation until approximately 4pm, however, closures and restrictions will begin to be lifted as a rolling process following the marathon route.

We are working closely with multiple agencies to minimise the disruption to residents and local businesses; however, we ask you to be prepared in advance for the restrictions.

Given the scale of this event and the level of restrictions, it is essential that you read this information and the Temporary Traffic Management Order carefully.

ROAD CLOSURES AND RESTRICTIONS

The event will have a major impact on the road network across the area with significant lengths of road closed to traffic, reduced speed limits, turning bans and restrictions on access and parking.

All roads along the event route will be closed to vehicular traffic. The majority will be closed in one direction only, except for the following lengths of road which will be closed in both directions:

  • B7029, Motherwell Road, Carfin from the roundabout junction with the A723 Merry Street to Carfin Cross
  • Biggar Road, Newarthill between the B7066, High Street and the A775 Edinburgh Road
  • B7029, Carfin Street between Argyll Wynd and Bruce Road
  • Bruce Road, Carfin between Carfin Street and Millard Avenue
  • A723, Carfin-Holytown Link Road between Carfin Street and Glen Ord Road

Please note, all roads that form a junction with the event route will either be fully closed or subject to a turning restriction. Please refer to the  Temporary Traffic Management Order for more details.

FOR ALL RESIDENTS AND PREMISES ALONG THE EVENT ROUTE WITH DRIVEWAYS AND ACCESSES will be closed during preparations for restrictions and for the duration of the event. This means affected properties will not be able to enter or exit driveways and private accesses during this time.

Plans are in place to facilitate emergency and critical care access to homes which are encircled by the event route. Controlled access and egress will be permitted when safe to do so. It should be noted that delays and queuing at these controlled access points should be expected.

If you have any questions about any aspect of the event, please email events@northlan.gov.uk
